LYON COUNTY, Ky. (WKRN) — Two Kentucky residents were killed and two others were injured in a crash involving multiple vehicles along Interstate 24 in Lyon County Monday afternoon.
Officers responded to a four-vehicle crash just after 4:20 p.m. along I-24 near mile marker 42.
According to Kentucky State Police, a 44-year-old Hopkinsville woman was driving westbound in a 2000 Honda Passport carrying four passengers; 42-year-old James Simmons of Paducah, a 50-year-old from Cadiz, a 49-year-old man and 52-year-old Tara Rex, both from Hopkinsville.
In another lane, an international tractor-trailer was also traveling westbound driven by a 54-year-old and a 31-year-old passenger.
A preliminary investigation by KSP reportedly showed the Honda veered into another lane and sideswiped the semi-truck before crossing over the median and passing into the opposite lanes of travel.

In the eastbound lanes, the Honda struck a GMC Sierra driven by a 42-year-old from Paducah carrying two passengers, a 38-year-old and a 56-year-old, both from Princeton. The Honda also hit a Freightliner semi-truck driven by a 26-year-old from Ohio.
The driver was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Officials said Sanders suffered serious injuries and was transported to an out-of-state hospital for treatment.
Rex and Simmons were ejected from the Honda and were pronounced dead at the scene, according to officials.
Authorities said no other injuries were reported.
The crash prompted a large emergency response from multiple agencies including KSP, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Lyon County Sheriff's Office, Lyon County EMS, Caldwell County EMS, Lyon County Coroner, Eddyville Police Department, Eddyville Fire Department and the Kuttawa Fire Department.
No additional information was released as the investigation continues.
