NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Another blast of bitter cold air has arrived. A big dip in morning low temperatures, in which some areas will have feels like temperatures in the single digits Thursday morning and air temperatures possibly in the single digits on Friday morning!

Despite Thanksgiving and the end of November ending cold, Nashville recorded its fourth warmest November on record, according to the Nashville office of the National Weather Service. The average temperature was 56.6 F, with the years warmer than November 2024 being 1931, 1909 and 1985. Now we're in December, and the cold weather will continue to dominate to end the week!

The big picture view of Future Tracker shows the significant snow will stay in the Great Lakes & New England regions (where there has been so much snow since Thanksgiving). The primary concern is the BIG snap of cold temperatures into the weekend.

For Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky, the precipitation is not an issue. It is the bitter cold that will have its grip over us through Friday! Early Thursday morning, the cold front slides in from the northwest. A few clouds are expected, and temperatures will tumble by daybreak Thursday to the 20s. But, add in the wind from the northwest and it will feel like the teens and single digits! Then, despite sunshine on Thursday, temperatures hold in the 20s to lower 30s, but feeling like the 20s and teens in the afternoon with the wind gusts 10-20 mph.

This will become the coldest air of the season. And by Friday morning, there is good potential to see some locations (especially in the Cumberland Plateau area) reach low tens and/or single digit air temperatures!

On Friday morning, we're currently forecasting Nashville to reach 18 F, which would be the coldest under 20 F since February 18, 2024 (Nashville recorded a low of 19 F). Despite sunshine Friday, temperatures are only in the lower to middle 30s.

Over the weekend, milder temperatures return. Especially Sunday where temperatures climb into the middle/upper 50s. Rain chances will increase Sunday into Monday! Do not expect the warmer temperatures to last long, indications are that additional colder air will arrive by the middle of next week!
