LEBANON, Tenn. (WKRN) -- Two people were injured following a high-speed crash early Sunday morning that damaged the Lebanon Square and some surrounding businesses.
According to the Lebanon Police Department, an officer patrolling West Main Street shortly before 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15 saw a vehicle heading eastbound at a high rate of speed.
Due to weather conditions and the car's speed, authorities said they decided "not to engage in an active pursuit," but they did notify nearby units and give them a vehicle description. However, before they could use other tactics to stop the vehicle, responding officers found the car crashed right off the Lebanon Square.
Officials said they found two people inside the vehicle, which was the only one involved in the incident. Both individuals -- one of whom was reportedly in serious condition -- were brought to the hospital.
"Because of the seriousness of the wreck, our Traffic Unit responded to the scene to investigate," the department posted on Facebook Sunday evening. "Their preliminary investigation revealed that speed and alcohol are believed to be factors involved in the wreck."
According to police, the crash scene spanned more than 700 feet. The wreck damaged fencing, shrubbery, a tree, several light poles, and multiple businesses along the square.

As a result of the crash, police had to close various roads around Lebanon Square until about 8:30 a.m. on Sunday.
Law enforcement shared surveillance footage of the incident, which was recorded by their 360-degree camera system set up on the square.
No additional details have been released about this incident.
