I-40 exit ramp reopens after person found dead in North Nashville, officials say

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) -- Police blocked off an eastbound exit ramp on Interstate 40 in North Nashville for several hours after a body was reportedly discovered there Sunday evening.

Metro Nashville dispatch said a call came in just after 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15 about a person face down at the I-40 East exit ramp by Jefferson Street.

Dispatch confirmed to News 2 the individual was deceased, so the Metro Nashville Police Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding this person's death.

Shortly after 7:30 p.m., the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) announced Exit 207 on I-40 East, the Jefferson Street off-ramp, was closed due to "police activity," adding that the scene should be cleared around 11 p.m.

By 10:30 p.m., TDOT's online traffic map showed the scene had been cleared, allowing the eastbound exit ramp and the right shoulder to reopen.

No additional details have been released about this incident.
