SPRING HILL, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Spring Hill Police Department (SHPD) has stepped up to help the family of a McNairy County deputy who lost his life on the job.
Sergeant Rick Finley was killed in the line of duty on Dec. 14, leaving behind a wife, a 2-year-old and an unborn child; the SHPD announced they were taking donations to support the family on Facebook.
"It's in the back of every officer's head that they may not come home at the end of a shift," Lieutenant Michael Foster with the SHPD said.
Finley helped answer a call responding to reports of a suspicious person when 9-year-old Daniel Jeremiah Holmes, who allegedly attacked Finley before firing several shots and fatally wounding him. The loss has been felt hundreds of miles away.
"Law enforcement is, really, one big family," Foster added.
The SHPD will accept any donations, but they added the biggest need for the family is children's clothing. Foster called the Spring Hill community giving and said he hopes residents can help where they can.
"We just want to try to do our own part in making her life a little bit easier," Foster said. "One less thing that she has to worry about for the next six months or a year."
Foster added that clothes don't have to be brand new, saying that anyone who has old children's clothes is welcome to donate. The SHPD will take donations until Friday, Jan. 3 at 199 Town Center Parkway, which is the lower level of Spring Hill City Hall on the left side of the building.
