NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Rain will be returning in a big way Thursday. In fact, there is now a Flood Watch in effect for Henry County in TN and Trigg, Christian, Todd, and Muhlenberg Counties in KY from late tonight through late Thursday night. Flooding is a concern.

In addition, the Weather Prediction Center issues 'excessive rainfall' forecasts in areas where flash flooding will be possible during continuous heavy rain events. Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky are under marginal and slight risks for excessive rainfall from Thursday to 7 a.m. Friday.

The latest rainfall amounts indicate one to three inches are likely, and areas west of Interstate 65 could see isolated amounts even higher!

Rain Timing

The rain on Thursday will start early and last into Friday morning. It will begin in the areas west and southwest of I-65 shortly before sunrise and will spread over our region throughout the day. The rain will be heavy at times, reducing visibility and causing travel delays. Plan now to give extra time for your destination. The rain motion will lift north/northeast throughout the day.

Thursday evening into Friday, we will see more heavy rain across our region. Temperatures will continue to warm into the middle and upper 50s. Rain exits on Friday morning, making way for sunshine and very mild temperatures reaching the 60s.

On Thursday evening through early Friday, an area of low pressure will lift through the Midwest states, and increase our wind gusts between 20 to 40 mph. Be sure to secure loose items outside. Wind gusts decrease to 10 to 20 mph on Friday.

With the rain and wind, you would expect colder temperatures to follow suit, but that is not the case in this particular system. Temperatures are in the 60s on Friday, dropping to the 50s and near 60 on Saturday, but right back to the middle and upper 60s on Sunday.

The outlook for next week shows above-average temperatures. Our last 70-degree day was Nov. 18, 2024, and we could hit our first 70-degree day of 2025 on Sunday or Monday!

The WKRN Weather Authority team will continue to monitor the trend for the heavy rain on Thursday and Friday.
