HENRY COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) -- A man was taken into custody early Saturday morning after he reportedly threatened to shoot Henry County law enforcement amid a lengthy standoff at his home.
The Henry County Sheriff's Office initially posted about the incident shortly before 3:45 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, saying its deputies were working with Paris officers to handle a situation on Clifty Village Lane, creating a heavy police presence that shut the road down.
Several hours later, officials announced they had learned on Friday, July 12 about a domestic assault that happened in Benton County. However, the suspect -- identified by the sheriff's office as Charles Kroner -- made it to his home in the 400 block of Clifty Village Lane.
Authorities said they were told Kroner was making threats to harm himself and others. Once law enforcement arrived at the address, they saw him sitting on the front porch, but then he retreated into the home.
According to the sheriff's office, Kroner began to threaten authorities, saying he would shoot if they approached. After a perimeter was set up, law enforcement and family members worked on communicating with the suspect. Members of the Paris Police Department, Tennessee Highway Patrol, Henry County EMS, and dispatchers provided assistance at the scene.
Officials said negotiations continued for about 6.5 hours, adding that Kroner came outside several times armed with a handgun.
At approximately 6:05 a.m., the sheriff's office said Kroner exited the house unarmed and was taken into custody. He was booked into the Henry County Jail for reckless endangerment and resisting arrest, with a bond reportedly set at $10,000.
Authorities said Kroner will also have pending charges in Benton County, but they did not share any additional details about those charges.
