HERMITAGE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Imagine driving down the street when suddenly, a gunshot hits your car. That was the nightmare one Nashville woman experienced over the weekend while traveling in Hermitage.

Brittany Jacobs described to News 2 the moments a bullet pierced her car. It happened on Lebanon Pike just before 1:00 a.m. on Saturday as she and a group of friends were headed east toward Mt Juliet.

"It was very, very scary — very shocking," Jacobs said. "...It almost sounded like a rocket hit or a firework hit the side of my car."

The car was stopped at a red light when her car was hit, narrowly missing a passenger sitting with the window rolled down. After the gunfire, they drove to a nearby gas station where they called police.

"I usually have my 5-year-old in the backseat and [it's just] very crazy to think that just driving down the street you could get shot at for no reason," Jacobs said.

She added that she believes the gunshot came from a motel that sits directly to the left of the stoplight because there were no other cars driving on the other side of the road at the time. A report filed by Metro police did not find any camera footage showing the shooting or potential suspects.

"After hearing about all the issues that this area's been having with that hotel specifically, it sounds like it was just not really a stray bullet but someone being very dumb and shooting towards the road," Jacobs added.

Data from the Metro Nashville Police Department showed that since January 1, 2024, there have been 20 fatal shootings, 51 non-fatal shootings, and 556 violent crimes involving a firearm reported out of the Hermitage precinct. That area is a top concern for some residents right now.

Jacobs told News 2 she's not confident anything would come of the shooting investigation involving her car.

"The cops say they're going to investigate it, but are they really?" Jacobs said. "I mean, haven't gotten too much communication from them; they did come and pick up the bullet last night, but other than that, I just don't see it going anywhere, which is really sad."
